About

Julie

I am a Dyslexia Specialist and NILD Educational Therapist with over 15 years teaching experience including online, in-person,and international. I have worked with all ages from kindergarten to older adults. I have taught English as a foreign language, robotics, K-12 Math and English, and psychology students (graduate and undergraduate) online, and teach English online.

I work with students to help them embrace learning and overcome challenges. I have found that many students who struggle have to change their approach to learning and thought patterns regarding their studies and learning. My approach to teaching and tutoring include having the student develop and practice their thinking skills by working with them to find answers rather than giving answers.

I am a college student with a passion for teaching and a love for language. I have always enjoyed reading and writing, especially academic material. I have tutored 5th to 8th graders in essay writing for two years, for homework and test prep. I also enjoy poetry and have exposure to other languages such as French, Spanish, and Japanese, so I am more easily able to accommodate ESL students.

My teaching method is very simple yet personal. I believe it is easier to learn when it is something that is familiar to the student, so I begin by getting to know them. I get to know their hobbies and interests and it lets me figure out where I can draw connections from the material to their personal lives. This helps them understand the assignment better and makes it overall easier and more pleasant. I approach each topic by looking at what the requirement for the project is, and then gauging where the student is academically. Then I do an overview of the topic to see where the weaknesses are, and focus on strengthening those areas. I believe learning shouldn't be a stressful experience, so I try to spark the natural curiosity within my students so they can be more interested in the world around them.
